Katalog für Praktiken in Zeiten des Klimanotstands

In Anlehnung an den New Women’s Survival Catalog und den Whole Earth Catalog erstellen wir einen Katalog, der eine Orientierungshilfe für den Umgang mit dem Klimakollaps im Kontext der Architektur bietet.

Der Katalog soll eine Sammlung relevanter Ansprechpartner*innen, politischer Organisationen, Arbeitsrechtsinitiativen, Materialquellen, Dienstleistungen, alternativer Finanzierungsansätze, Bauunternehmen und Nachbarschaftsinitiativen in und um Braunschweig zusammenstellen, er soll Wissen und Ressourcen zugänglich machen, die einen Anknüpfungspunkt für eine ernsthafte Integration ethischer, ökologischer und gesellschaftspolitischer Belange in die Architektur darstellen.

Dabei soll der Katalog nicht nur eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit dem gegenwärtigen Zustand der Architektur als Profession anregen, sondern darüber hinaus Handlungsoptionen für zukünftige Praktiken aufzeigen, die an einer gerechten (Re-)Produktion von Raum im weitesten Sinne beteiligt sind.

Das Projekt entwickelt sich im Laufe des Semesters über drei Sitzungen. Dabei werden gemeinsam von allen Teilnehmenden relevante Quellen gesammelt, gesichtet, und bewertet. Aufbauend auf der gemeinsamen Recherche wird Jede*r Teilnehmer*in in der Folge ein eigenes Beispiel weiterführend bearbeiten und mit Bildmaterial, Hintergrundinformationen und Interviews kontextualisieren.

Die gesammelten Projekte aller Teilnehmenden werden Interessierten in Form eines digitalen und gedruckten Katalogs zugänglich gemacht.

Following the New Women's Survival Catalog and the Whole Earth Catalog, we are compiling a repertory of cases that provide ways to rethink architecture in the face of climate breakdown.

The “Catalogue of Practices” is intended to collect projects, initiatives, material resources, policies, typologies, philosophies, concepts, economies, architectures, forms of organization, governance and collaboration in and around Braunschweig that show multiple ways of thinking and working with climate. These examples of spatial and non-spatial practices, aim to illustrate the wider networks of relations among human and non-human actors that architecture depends upon.

In doing so, the catalogue aims to visualise the interconnectedness and interdependencies between architecture practice and various disciplines pointing towards multiple forms of knowledge and potentials for spatial practice within climate. By bringing together alienated situations and other forms of practice, whether on a smaller or larger scale within the territory,, it will build an active knowledge network encompassing past, present, and future potentials.

The project develops over four sessions in the course of the semester. In the process, all participants will collect, review and evaluate relevant sources. All the proposed cases will be examined through a joint Climate Workshop to determine their relevance to climate and spatial practice. Each participant will then work on their own one or two examples and contextualise them with visual material, background information and interviews.

The collected projects of all participants will be part of a growing open source digital and printed catalogue.
