Rethinking Architectural History → From Monuments and Men to Climate Breakdown

Vorlesung
Winter '25/26 (Master)
Tatjana Schneider und Christina Serifi

This course—devised for the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture—traces the research and book project 'Architecture Is Climate'. Conceptualised as 11 lectures, it narrates the different sites (the social and spatial contexts) in which climate breakdown is both produced and experienced. These sites: labour, policy, economy, infrastructure, culture, knowledge, land and resources—represent the range of conditions which architecture needs to operate with and within in order to face climate breakdown. We show how and where architecture and climate are entangled by discussing the underlying conditions that shape architecture and so present the contexts with which future spatial practices need to engage.
